1. China
China is the country with the largest population and the highest carbon footprint in the world. China has released a clear commitment to renewable energy, which is encouraging. Data from China's National Energy Administration shows that in 2020, China's photovoltaic installed capacity will exceed 48 GW, and the total installed capacity will reach 253.6 GW.
This PV capacity is enough for China to maintain its market leadership, which accounts for 33% of the global total installed capacity market. It is worth noting that in 2017, China's solar mount system market share reached 51%. Since then, PV production capacity in various countries has increased, and China's dominance has declined.
Most photovoltaic products, such as solar panels, are built on large-scale solar farms in remote areas, which use the sun to generate electricity, which is then sold to utility companies. Satellite imagery shows solar farms of similar size popping up across China at an alarming rate.
The dramatic growth of solar farms shows China's growing need for electricity and the urgent need to fight air pollution. Today, some countries are implementing incentives to limit the installation of solar panel sand solar mounting, while the Chinese government is actively encouraging the installation of solar panels and setting incentives.

2. United States
The United States continues to improve its leadership in solar energy by developing its power sector and encouraging residents to install solar panels. The rise in solar power, thanks in large part to government incentives to install solar panels on homes, is a promising and fast-growing field.
In 2020, the residential market and the utilities sector grew by 15% and 37% year-on-year, respectively. In 2020, the United States added 19.7 GW of total installed capacity, bringing the cumulative installed capacity to 95 GW. U.S. solar production is expected to continue to grow in the coming years as the cost of solar decreases and non-renewables become less competitive.

3. India

India is also a world leader in solar photovoltaic capacity. After several years of continuous efforts, the Indian PV market achieved significant growth in 2019, accounting for 9% of the global PV market. This share has surpassed that of Japan (6.3%) and trailed the United States (11.9%).
In 2022, most of India's installed capacity will be realized by Indian public utilities, accounting for a large proportion of the newly installed capacity. As of the end of 2019, the country’s cumulative installed capacity was about 42.9 GW.

4. Japan

Japan is one of the most densely populated countries in the world, so there is no way to install solar panels on large tracts of land. Still, Japan leads the world in solar capacity. In 2021, it added 8.7 GW of new capacity.
Since the Fukushima disaster in 2011, Japan has made a serious commitment to developing solar energy as part of a plan to double its renewable energy by 2030. Out of necessity, Japan has found unexpected places to install solar panels. The golf boom in Japan in the 1980s resulted in a surplus of golf courses; by 2015, many courses were completely abandoned. And these forgotten stadiums have now built a large number of photovoltaic products.
Japan has even thought of building floating solar islands with thousands of waterproof solar panels, a new type of solar power plant that can effectively cool photovoltaic products with water.

5. Vietnam

In addition to the above four countries, Vietnam is also leading in solar power generation. In 2019, the country had an installed capacity of 4.8 GW. Vietnam's success is due to a government policy released this year that encourages solar investment by giving solar producers above-market purchase prices. Thanks to this policy, the installation of solar photovoltaic products in Vietnam has increased by more than five times than originally expected. In 2021, Vietnam's global PV market share is 7.7%.
